Theosophist; president, Theosophical Society, 1907-33; in 1885 she wrote some stories for children in the ΓÇ£Young Folks LibraryΓÇ¥; in the very first story ΓÇ£Ganga and the River MaidΓÇ¥, she gives description of India before coming to the land; was opposed to GandhijiΓÇÖs Civil Disobedience Movement but at the same time carried intensive agitation for Home Rule; organised Indian Home Rule League; founded Central Hindu College, Benares, 1898; despite political differences, Gandhiji had a great regard for her; had a great contribution towards awakening the national life in India; a staunch supporter of IndiaΓÇÖs freedom movement.
